Re: Stupid for human but not for all engine

Plisk fails miserably at this position. What kind of bonuses do you give to entice the king to go and start picking up enemy pawns? Going after undefended pawns? This seems a bit pricey to detect. Going after blocked pawns? Going after pawns far away from their own king? Any ideas? Material wise, Pl...

Re: Problem with UCI and Arena

Hi, There is a bug in Arena that when you add an engine for the first time (via install new engine dialog) and say UCI, for some reason it will go back to <Autodetect>. I usually fix this by going back to Engine Management and setting UCI from Autodetect. Make sure Arena lists UCI next to your engin...

Re: Kasparov Gambit

A good DOS emulator is DosBox (www.dosbox.com, although for some reason this morning the page does not load for me). They have versions for Linux, MacOSX and Windows among others. It has yet to fail me on running old dos apps.

Vlad.

Re: Null move pruning

Hmm, If I try the null move at root node before I generate and make any moves and that fails high and I return beta, what move should I actually make? There is no PV, since the PV from null move is not really useful since it starts with the wrong side to move. How can null-move be done at root node...

Re: Finding mate fast

Hi,

Yes, my problem was also that I could not find mates in one. It kept finding mates in 3 and eventually run out of time. It is fixed now.

Vlad.

Re: Finding mate fast

(I've updated the position)

It looks like indeed there is a bug in my code. It is a mate in one. I think somehow because I have the chess extension, something goes wrong.

Booo, I should have double checked this twice before making the post.

Regards,
Vlad.

Finding mate fast

Hi, My program has problems when it is under severe time constraints to find simple mates. For example in the position below it eventually went to lose on time: [D]8/8/8/6KQ/PP6/4Q3/6k1/8 w - - This happens when I play very fast game (like a game in 20seconds) and when it reaches this point it only ...

Re: Generating "through" attacks with rotated bitb

I think I might have to learn and implement the magic bitboards in Plisk. I have now working xray attacks in SEE however, my speed dropped to half when I added those in. Granted some of it it is to do with fluff from my data structure but there just seems to be a lot of work to get the attack-throug...

Re: Generating "through" attacks with rotated bitb

Hi, I am actually for now just trying to get correct king safety evaluation as well as mobility for sliding pieces to count attacking through a fellow sliding piece. Following your idea I managed to get that working so I am happy for now. It is a lot of code, like I pointed above though. However lik...
