Re: longest 6-man EGTB win

The problem is that this information is not in any of the existing EGT. The DTM tables don't respect the 50-move rule, so that positions with large DTM might actually be draws. The DTZ tables do tell you which positions can be won respecting the 50-move rule, but they do not tell you their DTM. I t...

Re: Lc0 51010

If you have a car that has 100 PS and drives good, it does not make much sense to drive another car that has 200 Ps or 300 Ps. It does if you are in a car race. It does not make sense if you do not believe in car races but just want a comfortable jouney. You are like a person driving at 30 mph shou...

Re: Lc0 51010

Chess is to create a plan to win the game. The chess championship is decided by the one who wins the games. Not the one who deserved to win the game by having the best plan. As an idealist you may want a rule change. That is not what we have at the moment. Same with all sports. Bolt is the best spr...

Re: Google's secret computer?

Yea, Exascale is underway https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exascale_computing The U.S. will join probably 2021 with Aurora (Intel) and Frontier (AMD). I guess most of them will use some kind of heterogeneous computing, a CPU/GPU mix. -- Srdja If true it looks like Moore's law is being surpassed when i...

Re: Google's secret computer?

Can quantum computers play chess? no https://fortune.com/2019/09/20/what-is-quantum-supremacy/ Does quantum supremacy make quantum computers better than conventional computers? No. Google's achievement only means its quantum computer could outperform a classical supercomputer on this one complex ca...

Re: Next Komodo vs human match

Sixth game was Gilden's best game, but ultimately yet another loss. He reached a normal opening position in the Caro-Kann with White just missing a knight, and it was difficult to imagine how Komodo would even make a fight of it. Komodo managed to trade queen for two rooks, but was still quite lost...

Re: Lazy-evaluation of futures for parallel work-efficient Alpha-Beta search

Introduction A few weeks ago, I theorized that GPUs can effectively perform work-efficient alpha-beta search. It led to a long discussion elsewhere on the internet, which pretty much ended with "If you think its possible, then you should do it". A couple of weeks later, here I am today ready to lea...

Re: 7 Man Syzygy and SSD

You seem to be saying that there is low/no correlation correlation between the number of TB hits that occur in the search and what shows up on the board. I'm not buying it. I'm assuming that what appears on the board has a VERY high correlation with what appeared in the search. But, if you have evi...

Re: 7 Man Syzygy and SSD

We should be incredibly grateful for the efforts of Bojun Guo (aka noobpwnftw) and Ronald de Man for the stupendous effort of building the 7 man syzygy files and for making the code public and freely available for use. It was very altruistic on the part of both parties. I am sure every one will sec...
