Re: Please drop Stockfish

Now I would like to ask, wouldn't it be more interesting to see a lot of different engines, each with it's unique strength and weakness, each with unique different playing style, each with different original idea, rather than watching a few 3000+ derivatives with very similiar playing style compete...

Please drop Stockfish

Disclaimer I am really new to computer chess, actually I am still outside of computer chess development. Yes, I have hacked for only a couple of months on a very well tought out engine called Glaurung, but my developments are mostly C++ code related, and it is still very far to be clear if the resul...

Re: Stockfish 1.01 FIX A SERIOUS BUG

Hi Marco, unfortunately I am not a programmer, only a tester. Unless there is a compile released that will restrict Stockfish to 1cpu without wrecking the node count (and therefore performance), I will be unable to test it. It would be great to be able to test Stockfish 1cpu on a dual or quad. Rega...

Re: Stockfish 1.01 FIX A SERIOUS BUG

First impression: Stockfish looks really strong. It seems to outsearch everyone. And I am using my MS VC++ build. Jim's build will probably be quite a bit faster. I get extremely low kn/s counts here. Same for others? Hi, kn/s should really be in the same range of Glaurung, actually a little bit mo...

Re: Stockfish 1.01 FIX A SERIOUS BUG

Minor suggestion, make sure ret is initialized: template<typename T> T get_option_value(const std::string& optionName) { T ret(0); // to initialize in case of fall-through. Options::iterator it = option_with_name(optionName); if (it != options.end()) { std:...

Re: Stockfish 1.0

Hello Marco, I am very happy to see this project, and I wish you good luck with it! This is how free software is meant to be used. I tried to compile and run your program on my Mac, and it crashed after a few seconds. I was quickly able to identify the bug. Even if it does not crash the program on ...

Re: Stockfish 1.0

We are getting farther each time. Now I see this (after adding #include <stdlib.h> to the beginning of file square.h: roy@roy-laptop:~/chess/sf_1.0/src$ make g++ -DNDEBUG -Wall -g -O3 -fno-exceptions -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-rtti -fno-strict-aliasing -c -o pawns.o pawns.cpp pawns.cpp: In member fu...

Re: Stockfish 1.0

Marco, I found the CXX flags and commented them out. Now I get this when I try the make: roy@roy-laptop:~/chess/sf_1.0/src$ make g++ -DNDEBUG -Wall -g -O3 -fno-exceptions -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-rtti -fno-strict-aliasing -c -o bitboard.o bitboard.cpp In file included from direction.h:28, from bit...
