Re: An apparent fortress, but there is a move that looks like it wins.

Switched off after more than another one full hour wating for next output line. Fail high needs very much time to be solved obviously. Same Cfish as in posting above but one, with this hardware and now default settings, which includes Analysis Contempt Both 25, just Syzygys switched off again. 19' ...

Re: An apparent fortress, but there is a move that looks like it wins.

Same 12x3GHz CPU, 24 threads with 32Gb hash komodo 12.3 with this hardware and default parameters except Syzygys switched off, 35' depth 60: 3r4/3r4/2p1k3/p1pbPp1p/Pp1p1PpP/1P1P2R1/2P4R/2K1Q3 w - - 0 1 Analysis by Komodo 12.3 64-bit: 6.Kb2 Rf7 7.Rg1 +- (6.87 ++) Depth: 7 00:00:00 1180kN ... 6.Kb2 R...

Re: An apparent fortress, but there is a move that looks like it wins.

Tactical code in SF like e.g. in Thothfish solves at once, internal MV- Mode like in McCain (X2b, Tactical 5=MV32) takes about a quarter of an hour Here's a Cfish- branch that has both (from "Alexej" at Zerbinati- Forum) ICCF5=internal MV32, everything else default except Syzygys off. 7' depth 33 3...

Re: An apparent fortress, but there is a move that looks like it wins.

Here is the position, admittedly I borrowed and modified the end position from Walter Eigenmann's ERET 075: 3r4/3r4/2p1k3/p1pbPp1p/Pp1p1PpP/1P1P2R1/2P4R/2K1Q3 w - - 0 6 The correct move that looks like it "breaks through" is 1.Rxg4! Very well done! Tactical code in SF like e.g. in Thothfish solves ...

Re: Stockfish misevaluations:

Hi Eelco! Kaissa gives 3.71. If you scale that down by 50% it would still be 1.85 high. Junior at least gives a not-winning eval: 4b3/5k2/p5p1/P2p1p1p/1PpPrP1P/2P2QP1/5K2/8 w - - 0 1 Analysis by Deep Junior 13.3: 8.Qh1 Bb5 9.Qg2 Ke6 10.Qf1 Kd6 +- (2.12) Depth: 9 00:00:00 4kN 8.Qh1 Bb5 9.Qg2 Ke6 10.Q...

Re: Middlegame positional test-suite

Hi Jon! Do this qualify as test position? r2q2k1/p1p3pp/2p5/3p1b2/8/2P2N2/PP3KPP/R1B2B1R b - - 0 14 I don't see so much difference between ...Qb8, ...Rb8, and ...a5, just to give some more possible candidate moves besides the "single one game changing". If this doesn't fit as definition of "position...

Re: Mate in 82?

Eventually, I am going to write an AND/OR depth first proof search search using GPUs, but that is a project for when I retire, I think. Olaf Jenkner's Gustav (3.3, not the latest one anymore, as far as I know) gives solution in 51 seconds with automtic parameters, only given 82 moves to search for....

Re: Mate in 82?

Hi! What am I missing? :? :oops: I don't see any way to force the black king off the c-file w/o dropping the d3 pawn (which appears to actually loose!) It's Cyclic Zugzwang, try for help komodo 12.3, if you have, or look at line to mate to get the fine trick: [Event "#82"] [Site "Talkchess"] [Date "...

Re: Mate in 82?

Hi Steve! Amazingly Komodo 12.3 announces mate in 82 after 44 seconds on my relatively fast laptop (i9)! Note there wasn't any forward and backward analysis. I did a clean restart of the Shredder GUI. Here's the output: 8/1p1p2p1/5p1p/5P1P/1p1p1P2/pP1P1P2/P1k1B3/4K3 w - - Engine: Komodo 12.3 64-bit ...
