Re: Five test positions from the »Titans«

The following are from the "Clash of the Titans", see http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42754 Hi Mike! Very nice collection of highlights, thank you and sorry for not having had the time to search for such by myself right now. I like your third one most, which is not so easy even for H...

Re: Test position

I know another study featuring King/Rook corresponding squares (T.Kok, 1938), but this is based on the Bláthy study: [D]6kB/3Pp1Pp/1p1rP3/pP6/P1K5/P2p3p/3P3P/8 w - - 0 1 White wins Even harder because of the longer way with h-pawn and black King escaping, in Bláthy#s there was a single square for t...

Re: Test position

The following diagram helps to understand the solution: http://i40.tinypic.com/14ajwhz.jpg There are a set of King/Rook(!) corresponding squares on the board. Very well, Arpad! Then there are just two little more sophistications, first of course not to fall into 3 fold trap and then not to move whi...

Re: Test position

As a matter of fact this study is to me a very good example of the nonsense adjugdement by adjudicator does do studies nowadays, having to accord to rules like: major dual is to be avenged. The message of this very fine piece of art seems to be: tell adjudicators to look twice if a dual isn't to be ...

Re: Cooking The Opening Book with Stockfish

15. Bxb5 Be7 16. Nxe6 fxe6 ... Komodo definitely thinks 16. Nxe6 is not the best move and sees the score as being pretty close to even. It thinks 16. Ne4 is a better trying giving white a clear advantage. Maybe I will learn something about Komodo's evaluation here. Hi Don! For sure it's a very tric...

Re: Right vs Left handed chess players (IM and GM)

Hi!
Just tried handedness AND chess with Google, seem good key words to look for.
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5147
was one of the first results, this article even made it to PubMed citations btw.
Good luck for your research

Re: test position (Stockfish move)

This seems to be difficult for several engines I have tried. Houdini 1.5a did not play it in 15 minutes on my quad. Shredder 10 got it in about 10 minutes.
