Re: Plague: a "new" chess engine based on Smaug

Sorry, Chris ! This is not just an empty thread. It robs you of respect. Mods can help you by deleting the whole thread. Matthias. We think it is quite progressive (12 elo) and it is good to laugh. :) Christopher Yup, it's a good laugh. And as for me, I don't think I deserve any respect anyway. Aft...

Re: Plague: a "new" chess engine based on Smaug

http://www.glaurungchess.com/glaurung22.zip We think our Plague plays better than Smaug. ;) Christopher Coming up with the same nonsense again and again is not a sign of intelligence. Isn't it boring? always the same silly jokes? Sir, plague is 12 points stronger than smaug. How could you say that'...

Re: Fruit vs. Toga poll

When my program ships with a license that says that you are free to do whatever you like with it (apart from making it proprietary), what right do I have to tell you later that you are not allowed to use it in some tournament? The license governs copyright and distribution. And also the terms of us...

Re: Fruit vs. Toga poll

Hey, I should create my own "derivatives" of Toga or Glaurung and enter it I can easily alter about 300 lines of code, that quite much. I can call it "very different" than original, so it's not a clone. Maybe the engine resulted is about 50 points weaker, but it still much stronger than Petir. When...

Re: Fruit vs. Toga poll

yeah, right. Toga and Fruit both allowed to enter. Then another toga cloner will ask to participate too, and since Toga is allowed to enter, then all version/modification of Fruit must be allowed too. Same principle apply to all Glaurung version, scorpion version, and soon, what we'll have is not Co...

Re: Please drop Stockfish

Now let's just forget about those "competitive" stuff. If you want to LEARN how chess engine works, what method could be better rather than building your own engine from scratch? YES, it would take years. YES, it would take a very hard work, YES, it's might be reinventing the wheel. But you'll learn...

Re: Please drop Stockfish

The problem with chess engine as an OSS project is, it doesn't matter how much elo strength gain. Even 100 points improvement to a 3000 elo engine didn't count much. Unless the ultimate goal is to catch Rybka. Now I would like to ask, wouldn't it be more interesting to see a lot of different engines...

Re: Derivatives are real programs too

My character? Now I'm just jealous, right? Let me tell you the main thing that attract me to computer chess is it's competitiveness aspect. It's like intellectual sport. I'm a guy who like to compete with others and computer chess provide me perfect opportunity. Now, anybody, just anybody, even with...
