Re: Crystal Update

Nice ! I'm very interested by 3. I think it could have practical elo-gaining applications, not just analysis applications. I suggested to Aloril to use Crystal to do live-analysis on TCEC SuFi games between Leela and Stockfish. If any engine can find a brilliancy missed by both of these, it might be...

Re: New engine releases 2020

I don't get that code kingDistance := Min(int(distanceBetween[fromId][whiteKingLocation]), int(distanceBetween[fromId][blackKingLocation])) if kingDistance >= 4 { score += distantKnight[kingDistance-4] } distantKnight seems to be applied whereever the knights are I think "fromId" is the knight's lo...

Re: New engine releases 2020

Combusken 1.1.0 released https://github.com/mhib/combusken/releases/tag/v1.1.0 The most important change in this release is Syzygy tablebases support. Should be ~40-60 ELO stronger than Combusken 1.0.0. I see some of your patches for 1.1 where inspired by my work for Ethereal, like the stacked pass...

Re: MEA and temere.epd

If you get the EPD position set big enough and the evaluation quality of the moves high enough, this could get really close to measuring playing strength. The results are already quite good. One thing such an approach would require is to score more moves. An engine should lose some points compared t...

Re: Booot 6.4 release

Wow, unexpected !

Do you have an expected strength increase compared with the previous release ?

I hope you can succeed in making your engine cross-platform, with a Linux version we could see it back at TCEC. And it's nice for people like me who primarily use Linux.

Re: An idea to kill draws in computer chess by different rules

I agree that a perfectly played game should be a draw. The problem is that with current rules, one player must make either several mistakes or one very big mistake to lose. Ideally any mistake should lose, a draw should result only from ideal play which no one should ever be able to achieve. Or at ...

Endgame masterpiece from Stockfish-Komodo

Komodo is having an incredible showing right now at CCC13 SemiFinals, only slightly behind Leelenstein, Lc0 and Stockfish after 50 games. Stockfish just managed to break the equal score through an endgame same-color-bishop win that long looked drawn to all the spectators : https://www.chess.com/comp...

Re: FGRL - 16 Cores rating list - Ethereal 12.00

Interesting progress considering Ethereal 12.00 has default contempt and that contempt is generally thought to hurt against NNs.
