Re: CCRL 40/40, 40/4 and FRC lists updated (29th December 2018)

CCRL team, many thanks again for testing FrankWalter! Of course it's a bit disappointing to see it loose a couple of elo which is add odds with my observations from my own testing. Perhaps it has to do with the time control code which I changed. I mostly tested with incremental time control games, s...

Re: Syzygy Question

Other (older, maybe developed with HDDs in mind) endgame tablebases, such as nalimov, get around this problem by using a cache, Syzygy does not. This is wrong. Syzygy does use a cache, and it is caching far more effectively than Nalimov. I stand corrected! I read this question of yours (http://www....

Re: Syzygy Question

6-men Smartphone and 5-men PC syzygy are faster. Can someone explain that? Hi Eduard, I know that Syzygy tablebases rely on very fast storage. Traditional harddisks (HDD) use mechanical components to search for a position on the disc, and are therefore much slower than the newer solid state drives ...

Re: New engine releases

I've released FrankWalter 2.2.6 (generously hosted by Ron Murawski) http://computer-chess.org/doku.php?id=computer_chess:engines:frank-walter:index Should be a bit stronger than 2.2.3, I saw maybe 50 elo in self play (though what does that say:-) The plusses in elo might be due to improved SEE and m...

Re: xBoard config file

Assuming you mean 4.9.1 (and on linux): Mine is located in my home folder in:

Code: Select all

.xboardrc
This is on an ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS machine with the xboard package installed, so I assume this is the default.

Re: Revived Engine - Frank Walter 2.2.0 (Java - WB)

Thank you for this game and for the logging!

It appears that it doesn't consider Rd6 at all and then suddenly executes it anyway. I had some problem like this earlier, but I had thought I found the bug responsible - that does not appear to be the case :-(

Re: Frank Walter

I've made this change to FrankWalter and the new version (2.2.3) can be downloaded here: http://computer-chess.org/doku.php?id=computer_chess:engines:frank-walter:index There are two new commandline parameters * -nobook (to tell FrankWalter not to use its internal book) * -book (followed by the file...

Re: Frank Walter

Hi Gabor,

I never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense:-)

I need to make this configurable, that will be a nice feature anyway. I'll add this in the fix version, but it will take a bit longer I think^^

Re: Frank Walter

Even if I add -tb F:\Sakk\syzygy to the command line it does not move. That is, it moves (very slowly, as if restartig after each move) until it leaves book. After that it does not move at all. Hi Gabor, I see that I was unclear: FrankWalter has two ways of specifying the location of Syzygy tableba...
