Re: Introducing Igel engine

Hey Werner, Is this name a good idea, as we have already Igel 2.4.0  Well, I don't know if it is possible to change the title of this thread, it was created long time ago when Igel was a weak 2600 elo engine, and no one was really interested in it (probably still the case), so the thread did n...

Re: Introducing Igel engine

Hello Wolfgang, Adjudication rules: - adjudicate game as lost when both (!) engines show -999 centipawns for 5 moves I think the adjudication of 999 cp is the trick that causes the games to end smoothly on your side. When I fixed the bug yesterday, I realized it was in a very specific condition: 1. ...

Re: New engine releases 2020

Hey Wolfgang, Thanks very much. I'll integrate it in my current tournament and report. May take 2 or 3 days to get a considerable number of games Thanks! Sounds like a plan :) I noticed that with ponder=on Igel is stronger by at least 100 elo more against Topple (also with ponder). Don't know if thi...

To my surprise, it is a (very) little faster than the one-file Minic.
You just discovered my secrete weapon of Igel against Minic all this time

Re: New engine releases 2020

Wolfgang, I see a bit better results of new Igel in ponder mode against Topple: https://snipboard.io/Lc3BRN.jpg Please check the folder 'ponder' inside archive at https://github.com/vshcherbyna/igel/releases/download/2.4.0/igel-2.4.0.bin.zip The fix will be a part of mainstream version of Igel in ne...

Re: New engine releases 2020

Hey Wolfgang, I've checked all the 800 games with 2.1.0 and 5'+3". Thanks for a thorough check and the time you spend on this. I've identified a bug in Igel and applied the fix. It has worked well in my manual test on 3 games against Topple, I am running 1000 games more to confirm with ponder=on in ...

Re: New engine releases 2020

This is 60s+0.6 increment without adjudication by score or by tbs.

Re: New engine releases 2020

I've run some ponder tests Wolfgang, https://i.paste.pics/0a5aa357cd99917740aa2bff162aa6ee.png As you can see, Igel is loosing on time just like Vivien said. Basically Igel looses all games against weaker components (Topple is 125 elo weaker). I am not conformable making a ponder release with this k...

Re: New engine releases 2020

I am currently running 2000 games between Igel and Topple in 60s+0.6 with and without ponder to see if there is an elo degradation. If elo is the same, I will produce 2.4.1 with ponder enabled. If elo is not the same, well, I will need to dig :) P.S. No offense of not using Minic for the test, it's ...

Re: New engine releases 2020

Don't worry Wolfgang, I will add ponder back very soon. I did not expect so much interest from people in Igel and especially in ponder mode :)

I am currently considering either to publish a 2.4.1 (soon) with ponder as it is or wait a couple of weeks and add some elo and add ponder.
