Congratulations Roger, Fabien and John. You do indeed have a hard act to follow as the departing team did a great job. But, I'm confident you guys will carry on in the same stellar manner.

Re: A Preposterous Cliche and Its Consequences

Since time ago a cliche has became almost an axiom here. It is this: in CTF lurks a band of madmen, insulting people, racists, religious fanatics etc. That is bad enough, but the worst part is that some believe that CTF can operate as the bin trash of anything some guys does not like to see here. C...

Re: About Some Elasticity in Moderators

Certainly I am a reasonable person. I do not ask officially this or that amount of non topic posts. Even Less I ask high doses of them. I just ask for some tolerance when some of them appears, provided they are not toxic. . . I think toxic is the key. Posts about computers in general, chess in gene...

Re: False positive-by far-Maestro Dan !!!

As I noted above, I sent the file to Malwarebytes and explained what I had done. They wrote back and asked that I update to make sure I had the latest dtabase and then run a scan with a /developer command line switch and then send them the log of that. I updated and ran a normal scan - no change, th...

Re: False positive-by far-Maestro Dan !!!

..............and (unfortunately for some here  ) I'm still alive ! Whew. I'm glad you're still alive, Ruxy. I knew these virus things were a pain in the ass but I didn't realize they could be fatal. Following Tony's suggestion I've sent the file to Malwarebytes. When/if I hear somethin...

Re: Ground this Jet

What sort of odd behavior were you experiencing? Hi Tony, First, we are looking at the same file. My date has changed to current but the bytes and checksum are the same. It could be a false positive. I haven't used that file in 3 years or so and I have had no indication of any suspicious activity d...

Ground this Jet

Hi all, When I released Cupcake a few years back we (Jim Ablett and I) did a jet version for those who did not have the latest version of Java. For those not familiar, Jet is a utility that makes a windows executable from a java source. Anyway, a few weeks ago my computer started exhibiting some odd...

Re: what is left in computer chess programming

That is because you are talking about orthodox Chess, a game that has been beaten to death. You would do well to expand your horizon, because almost anything else is much more interesting. Steak is nice, but who still wants to eat a steak that has been chewed to the bone? Orthodox chess stil...

Re: Memories, Memorials, Remembrances....

Fern, you know that creating subfora is sadly not possible for moderators, or we would have created many more (chess engines updates announces, a subfora about chess (not CC), one about chess literature and chess sets, one about dedicated units, etc etc etc...). So you'll have to ask Sam, the admin...
