Re: Chess Tools

I'm wondering if this is something you might be able to do. Years ago there was a program that (supposedly) could take scanned-in chess diagrams and turn them into .pgns or FENs. I say "supposedly," since I could never get the thing to work properly. Anyhow, is this a possible project?

Re: Komodo 11 is out!

I must say this is pretty cheesy as far as I'm concerned. My Komodo 10 + 1 year of updates expires in a week, and rather than announcing Komodo 10.5, I get hit with Komodo 11. I supported Dan back when he wasn't selling the program, merely asking his users/fans to help him out as much as we could......

Re: Most wanted missing features for a chess GUI

I have a friend writing his own engine + interface, and I've suggested to him he include something I call SAM -- Shoot A Move! It's a button click that randomly selects and plays one move from all possible moves in a given position. It's a good move sometimes; most times it's not so good. But it's q...

Re: How Many of You Still Play -even not much- a dedicated u

A few years back I picked up a battery-powered Radio Shack 16-Level 1850 Computerized Chess unit for $2 at a used book sale. It was perfect out of the box... obviously never used, probably a present for someone who didn't like chess. New batteries, and it worked perfectly. I took it to the chess clu...

Re: Wanted: well made and impartial review of chess DVD`s

No Kramnik, unfortunately. Something for the future, as I do have a limited budget. I also have the Kasparovs, the only one of which I've watched, however, is the one on the Queen's Gambit. It was quite good. His series on the Najdorf was viewed by our Sicilian expert, and he pronounced them "outsta...

Re: Wanted: well made and impartial review of chess DVD`s

I don't know how well made these will be, but they certainly will be impartial. I have quite a few chess dvd's which were intended to be used on a computer the club I run was supposed to be getting. However, the computer never materialized, and neither have the members, who are university students w...
