Re: Stockfish search stops here after 99 plies, why?

A different way of analysing positions such as this one is required. Since the Black king could only be on 24 different squares in any game played from this position and the White bishop on only 8 different squares, leaving only 15 different squares for the White king, there would be only 24x8x15=28...

Re: chess22k 1.13 released

chess22k is the only java engine I have installed under Shredder. I have never been able to run any java engines under Fritz. I have been able to get the Carballo 1.7 java engine working ok in Fritz 13 in Windows 10. I don't have any other java engines in my collection. I had to use Polyglot.exe wi...

Re: REBEL 10 benchmark on modern computer

Hi Ed, I just compare the speed for Rebel 12 under DosBox and under Qemu and both are running around 120 Kn/sec. So, about no speed difference for me. Vincent I checked and you are right, perhaps Franz can explain why we wrote 3 x times faster than DosBox. Maybe it's true foe other Dossies, I would...

Re: REBEL 10 benchmark on modern computer

Just fired up one of my old computers which dual boots between Windows XP and Windows 98SE. The cpu is an old AMD Sempron 2400+ (32 bit, 1.67GHz) The benchmark in Windows 98SE was 2590, almost the same as the result in my previous post. Could not take a screenshot, so took a photo with my camera, wh...

Re: REBEL 10 benchmark on modern computer

In linux I find that the DOS Rebel chess programs run very slow using DosBox. They run faster in DosBox on Windows 10, but are still pretty slow compared to when run in Windows 98. I have recently installed Rebel 10 on this linux computer, that I use on the internet. The OS is Mint 18.1 and cpu is m...

Re: Strange artifact of Syzygy format

Stockfish 8 single core with only complete 5 man Syzygy tables on this slowish computer takes just 1 second to get a mate score at depth 20.

Re: Are opening principles correct?

You do not understand the output of arena. I copied it from arena gui that I use and it show the best move last when I use copy and paste. evaluation is not from white point of view but from the side to move so Qf6 and Qe7 mean equal position and rest of the moves are advantage for white. Note that...

Re: Tool to sort pgn files using several tags

Is there a tool to sort a pgn file using more than one tag? For example, sort the file using the order Date (ascending/descending), White player (a/d), Black player (a/d), Event (a/d) etc or other combinations of this type? The number and order of the sort tags would be specified by the user. Thank...

Re: Queen vs 2 Knights

Here I thought that Black is lost, and wondered why Black moved now 99...d1Q. Are there any others here who would have belived that black is lost? What is black with 2 knights meant to do to draw? According to the online 6 man tablebase site, Black has 6 other moves apart from d1=Q for a th...
