Re: Ethereal 12.89A PRO Cup 8

The versions with NNUE are private currently, and will remain as such for the time being. I have many things to do before getting to a point to release them publicly. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear.

Re: OpenBench question

Opening selection is randomly. Which does mean lots of duplicate openings get played in the long run. I have never tested what you proposed. Really you need two sets of tests: 1. First play a set of N games between two engines using the same openings, 5 times. 2. Then play a set of N randomly select...

Re: Dragon

Does the Dragon licence permit that ? By making that available free you may be taking business away from the Komodo team. Good question and not really sure how that works. There are other users offering Komodo, Dragon, Shredder, Houdini, etc. I see it no different than letting a friend sit down at ...

Re: Ethereal 12.89?

Anyone know if the version below is the same one that is currently on TCEC? The one on TCEC says "12.89A_PRO_Cup_8" Also, when I download it there is a 12.89snk version. What is "snk", should I use that one over the standard 12.89.exe? Ethereal 12.89: http://www.sdchess.ru/download_engines.htm Hmm,...

Re: Compiling question?

Does bmi2 really always include avx2 instructions, I think I have read this somewhere recently? Also someone complained a while ago, because my bmi2 (named) was slower than before (I had not included avx2). My thinking was that avx2 came much later than bmi2, at least I thought so. So I need to kno...

Re: FEN compression

Occupancy : 8-bytes Evaluation : 2-bytes Turn : 1-bytes White King Sq : 1-bytes Black King Sq : 1-bytes Piece Count : 1-bytes Packed Pieces : 1-bytes per two pieces (16 max, 12 average) = Average of 26-bytes, max of 30-bytes. This is already better, and simpler, than the one from NNUE folks. And ye...

Re: FEN compression

Not nearly as good as yours, although trivial to decompress and matches my internal use during training. Load times are pretty fast, to the point where speeding it up is a non-factor for me, but I imagine your scheme would be faster, trading off disk reads for decompression. Occupancy : 8-bytes Eval...

Re: It walks like a clone, it quacks like a clone ...

Possibly because most of engine development has left the realm of human understanding. Its mostly trial and error. Those with the best instincts only have a marginal edge in predicting success of ideas. Idk, back in the original days of talkchess (CCC), there were not resources like the wiki, youtu...
