Re: Is Talkchess still the centre of computer chess programming?

I never thought TalkChess is a place to discuss technical problems. I came here mostly to see drama, sometimes to make contact with people then take the discussions elsewhere and occasionally brag about my chess-related work. Given the recent events it's more of a "premier" yellow pages where you ca...

Re: An actual interesting computer chess read about FF2

Let me just put it this way, I've spent significantly more time, money and other resources to push computer chess forward, I contributed to both the projects they are ripping off. I also have your so-called ego, so when I see crap like this, it gets personal, will you spare me from your double stand...

Re: syzygy

Not to disagree with RdM should be revered or anything.
But... since when do civilized discussions become acts of heroism?

I do not want to be known just as being reasonable.

Re: An actual interesting computer chess read about FF2

Is there a rule in propaganda that says one side must not upset the other?

When people do crap like that, they should be prepared for someone returning the favor.

I got enough popcorn ready just to see it escalate by the way. :D

Re: speaking of GPL

It is fine(as a copyright owner) to release anything under more "free"(compatible) license which may include parts of GPL code. Just the whole thing then becomes GPL to everyone else unless they remove the parts covered by GPL.

Re: Are neural nets (the weights file) copyrightable?

It does not matter whether the NNUE is independently copyrightable. SF<->NNUE interaction is not "trivial" public interface, and there is no such "controlled interface" clause defined and explicitly allowing to link with an proprietary library in SF's license. So in doing so(distributing a bundle of...

Re: Are neural nets (the weights file) copyrightable?

That would be the same as loading a private driver or firmware blob in the Linux world.
Yes, possible, but they must be distributed separately if not explicitly allowed by a "controlled interface" exception from the GPL code.

Re: Are neural nets (the weights file) copyrightable?

I think one can argue that the net is more of a linked program in object code form which runs under the interpreter(engine). There is no distinction between object code that is in COFF/ELF format or in neural network weights format, in this case, it is copyright-able, but then you'll have to deal wi...

Re: Are neural nets (the weights file) copyrightable?

The GPL issue with FF2 is not resolved.

Despite all this, is there even a license term on the FF2 net at all? If there is no license term that one can find which excludes the right to redistribute, I think anyone can!
