Re: Komodo 14 released.

What happens if i select "Armageddon White must win" if Komodo is black. In selfplay do it make more sense to select White must win for both parties than White must win against Black must win ? If Armagennon -White must Win is selected and Komodo is playing the black side, then Komodo will consider...

Re: Komodo 14 released.

Something for Larry, or any of the LC0 people to comment on. I noticed recently on this page https://www.chessvariants.com/programs.dir/zillions/ Mark Lefler is mentioned, is this the Komodo Mark? What's interesting is that they developed a system of rule files for all sorts of chess variants (and ...

Re: Why successive versions of Stockfish converge towards Lc0?

If including several other engines, the picture looks like that: sim version 3 Key: 1) Lc0 SV_3010 (time: 100 ms scale: 20) 2) Lc0 T70 (time: 100 ms scale: 1) 3) Stockfish 10 (time: 100 ms scale: 1) 4) Stockfish 11 (time: 100 ms scale: 1) 5) Stockfish 6 (time: 100 ms scale: 1) 6) Stockfish 8 (time:...

Re: Komodo 14 Armageddon Opening analysis

Didn't want to pollute the other thread, so I thought I'd make this specifically about Armageddon. How does it work with opening analysis? I set it to "black must win" and entered in 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 and let it think. 2...Nc6 was it's top choice, 2...Nf6 kept bouncing between 2nd and 3rd showing about...

Re: Score "no pawns" question

Thanks HG, I'm going to try multiplying the score by 0.5 when there are no pawns and see how it goes. Cheers, Ian The general rule is it the side that is ahead in material, but has has no pawns, then it needs to have 4 pawn units more to win. So things like RR vs NN are mostly wins, but RB vs NN ar...

Re: Null move in TT

Null move causes a beta cut. Can I save anything to the TT ? What move could you save ? You can store it, but at some risk. It would be stored with a value of beta or maybe they null move search result which could be much higher, and as a lower bound. The risk is that if a new beta comes along due ...

Re: Komodo 14 released.

Calling a 10 point rating gain 'significant' when you are talking about moving the needle from say 3400 to 3410 is hyperbole. But we all know that rating gains are hard to come by so I am sure everyone will forgive you for that. I am not sure what to think of Armageddon mode. I can't see any earthl...

Re: Komodo 14 released.

Larry, Is there a chance to get 'Armageddon' to work in MCTS mode at a later date? Thanks I hope to do this in a.future release. The code section in Komodo that handles the MCTS tree needs a bunch of changes to handle proper conversion of draw scores, but I am confident we can do it. Deadlines prev...

Re: Houdini vs Houdidit Swiss Champs 2020...

What is this Houdidit/Komofish/Stomodo? Somebody managed to get his hands on H5 and H6 source code. Houdini 5 and 6 are based on SF8 but also uses an eval table from Komodo. The funniest thing about it all is that Houdini's displayed node count is its real node count + 1/7*nodes. So yea, Houdini is...
