Re: New DeepMind paper

This is quite interesting … there might be some surprises yet! Maybe chess DOES follow a statistical path but it just needs enough data to set that path into stone. More realistically though, I think that there will always be some permutations when statistics fall and some tactics will be missed … t...

Re: Carlsen is back with all his Opening knowledge....

Most likely he sees this as his next challenge as he pretty much has controlled all other forms of chess (Classical, Rapid, Blitz, Bullet). I wouldn't consider FRC "a form of chess". Yes ... maybe a more accurate description would a "chess variant". The main difference I see where Chess 960 is not ...

Re: Carlsen is back with all his Opening knowledge....

I think the score has nothing to do with how superior So was to Carlsen. Carlsen missed a winning position in the first game and then lost a drawn endgame ... this sort of made him over extend on the other games. My guess that this was just a bad day in the office and probably on a different day res...

Re: buying a new computer

Wow … new generation 64 core CPU at less than $1800 … that is getting very interesting. Should be able to put together a very nice system for less than $3500. Many new technologies coming on that are making me look towards upgrading my 8 core CPU system. New version of USB, faster memory … faster SS...

Re: IN 100 games if SF reaches 51 in TCEC it should be stopped

If you look at the games that LC0 was beating SF impressively … they all seemed to take advantage of a few holes in SF evaluation. Obviously SF could see that and with enough data from lost games SF was able to plug up the weaknesses. This probably exaggerated the appearance of Lc0 being a much stro...

Re: "Fat fritz" stronger than Stockfish ?

I am not sure what you mean. Are you trying to tell me that NN engines will not play or suggest a move that is stronger than SF? If so then I think you missed the zillion games already published where SF loses to Alpha Zero or Lc0 or other NN engines ... check YouTube there are hundreds if not thou...

Re: buying a new computer

One thing I learned when building my own computers ... if you want to go for the latest and greatest ... get ready to work out problems. Your BIOS will need to be updated, you might get problems with compatibility with some peripherals ... so expect a lot of firmware upgrades. Now add overclocking t...

Re: "Fat fritz" stronger than Stockfish ?

I totally disagree. I think with NN engines there are some moves that AB engines simply don't see or won't play. Don't just disagree abstractly. Please try to give examples of some best moves that NN engines see that AB engines don't. There have been many potential examples looked at in this forum,...

Re: "Fat fritz" stronger than Stockfish ?

Forget about the thread title for now. (And yours is a charitable view of what the point of the article was. The article makes it sound like one NN is special, when the truth is it doesn't give anything good that other NNs can't give.) My point is that we've seen in this forum repeatedly that NN en...
