Just saw a new Credit Karma commercial which features chess. It was quite entertaining. I tried looking it up on youtube but it is not there. Re: methods for tuning coefficients

Pretty sure your Temporal Difference Learning is implemented incorrectly (and highly inefficient) if you are only propagating WDL back. TDL's "oracle" should be the engines own search() The idea being to push the static evaluation of the current position towards the score returned by a search of it...

Re: methods for tuning coefficients

Think of this: The static position eval is of the form: v = Sigma Ci x Fi where C are coefficients and F are features. Now compare that to the equation for an SLP (single layer perceptron = a neural network with only one weight layer): O = Sigma Wi x Ii where W are weights and I are inputs. These eq...

Re: What is Deep Learning?

It is a new term for an old thing. In the field of ANN's (Artificial Neural Networks) / CI (Computational Intelligence) we used to classify NN's in several ways but one way was SLP vs MLP. SLP is Single Layer Perceptron and MLP is Multilayer Perceptron. SLP has inputs, one set of weights and outputs...

Re: What got you into computer chess?

I learned to play chess when I saw two other people playing an interesting looking game but yet unknown to me in 1969. They said they were playing chess and one of them said he couldn't teach me because I was too dumb to learn chess. We were in the elementary school library, so I read the chess sect...
