Re: GCC 4.8 made me chose Clang

Apple clang 5.0 What is this version? The latest version I can found on internet is only 3.4. Is this really clang version or just the latest XCode version ? This is the version that Apple provide with Xcode. It's based off LLVM 3.3svn with unknown modifications from Apple: $ clang --version Apple ...

Perhaps try the packages provided by the LLVM project themselves? That will be llvm-3.4 (at time of writing).

Re: GCC 4.8 made me chose Clang

* clang does not accept GNU extensions (std=c++11 but not std=gnu++11). That means I need to throw away variable length arrays. They were so nice for triangular PV array on the stack, without them, I will now have to rely on an ugle global structure. That isn't true; I've just compiled this, withou...

Re: OSX Xboard 4.7.2 .app

Perhaps you can explain to me why explicitly telling it to use the 10.6 SDK would be a bad idea? It won't cause a problem, it's just unnecessary to keep it about; remember that a framework is capable of holding multiple versions of the .dylib. I think you have done everything you can; perhaps the o...

So you edited /opt/local/etc/macports/macports.conf and added just:

macosx_deployment_target 10.6

Re: OSX Xboard 4.7.2 .app

Basically what I did. After reading this thread http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.os.apple.macports.user/21352 I put in MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET 10.6 and then SDKROOT /Developer/SDK/MacOSX10.6.sdk (where i had put it) for good measure then recompiled everything from scratch. I know this worked as eve...

Re: OSX Xboard 4.7.2 .app

Dang, I don't understand this one. It should have compiled against the libSystem.B.dylib in the 10.6 SDK and thus the one in your /usr/lib folder. Really not sure what to do here. Looks like it went after the one on my system How are you configuring macports to build for 10.6? I looked recently and...

Re: OSX Xboard 4.7.2 .app

Well I found a way to configure macports to compile everything for 10.6. Thank goodness I still have my 10.6sdk lying around. As soon as I heard Xcode was removing it with that next update, I went and archived it in my home folder :) So now I just need to finish setting up macports again and we sho...

Re: OSX Xboard 4.7.2 .app

Well, MSVC is not normally distributed with Windows, right? You have to buy it separately. So it is illegal to distribute binaries compiled by MSVC unless you include the sources of MSVC? It seems a bit of a counter-productive rule, to force users of GPL'ed software to use only second-rate compiler...

Re: OSX Xboard 4.7.2 .app

I found the tone of your post rather unpleasant. But perhaps that's my problem. Since you seem to know a bit about development under OS X, maybe you could offer Joshua some assistance, without snarky comments like "If you cannot make your app know its own bundle path then you have many problems on ...
