Re: why chess has small chance of being a black win ?
In my opinion the copying aspect is rather negligible in so far as White can at one point force Black to break the symmetry - namely when White eventually threatens something that has to be addressed by Black. An example from established opening theory is the following line from the Four Knight's Ga...

Re: why chess has small chance of being a black win ?
At the risk of sounding so silly and being ridiculed, I ask this question :) Apparently had it not been for zugzwangs, chess could almost be weakly proven as either a win or draw for white like tic-tac-toe is. The fact that something subtle like presence of zugzwangs is the whole reason why it can'...

Re: Final Standings
Graham,
how does it come that Kurt finally managed to deal with Carballo? I believe Carballo always came out ahead in your tournaments? Did you use a new book or was there an opponent that got on particularly well with Carballo?

Re: Standings after Round 18 of 36
I had a look as well. Logged in spot on to see a game of Kurt, playing the Sveshnikov Sicilian with Black - as I do in real life :D Good job that you offer broadcasts recently. Well it's no real hassle on my part providing these live broadcasts. I just wish that more enthusiasts had the technical k...

Re: Does anyone have analyses/theory in this position?
Hi Oliver Could you give any variations after Qg4 Nd4 ? It seems to be interesting since all my friends with the same trainer as me plays the vienna as well, though not the f4 system allways. I Think I have the other emms book you are looking for somewhere, and I will post the variations as soon as...

Re: Does anyone have analyses/theory in this position?
This opening is not from any openings book, ... Oh yes, it is: Have a look at the books from John Emms, "Beating 1e4 e5" and "Attacking with 1 e4". By the way 5. f4 is not bad at all. I think 5. f4 is bad, maybe not in the game losing sense but in the same sense that the goring gambit or the morra ...

Re: Does anyone have analyses/theory in this position?
There is also a "trap " I have played many times, and won them all these times. After 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 , What do you think you should play? Ah, 4. Qg4 Nd4, the Vienna Poisoned Pawn :D It is. I've actually never played agains ...Nd4, But against ...Qf6 VERY OFTEN, and i think it is lost f...
