Re: Can somebody with 7 men EGTB show how to win with White?
Just because I asked for a 6 men EGTB knowing that it only required a 5 men EGTB, does NOT mean that I thought that a 6 men EGTB will give any different result than a 5 men EGTB for a position that only has 5 pieces. So why did you ask then? The rest of your explanation doesn't make any sense becau...

Re: We are past the stage where the OS has become the virus
The real reason was MS moving headquarters so that Munich would get more money. That is just your assumption/conjecture. The articles I remember at that time didn't mention this at all, but instead exclusively quoted bad experiences of end-users as a main reason to switch back. That is a problem in...

Re: Future progress of chess software in chess
I am not sure that no amount of human intervention can score a win against SF on decent hardware on ICCF TC(maybe some human intervention can score a win in 1 out of 20 games) No amount of human intervention can score a win against SF on decent hardware on ICCF TC ever . Regular ICCF standard TC is...

Re: We are past the stage where the OS has become the virus
My chess analysis was running slow. So I looked at what processes in memory were doing. There was this thing: Compattelrunner.Exe It was using 17% of my compute power, and my chess task which should be at 95% was struggling. Apparently, it is MS Windows spy process that you cannot turn off. So I fo...

Re: Future progress of chess software in chess
1)Chess machines are equal to human+machines in playing correspondence chess 2)Chess machine are equal to union of humans+chess machines in developing better chess engines. 3)Chess machines are equal to union of humans+chess machines in teaching humans to play chess better in OTB chess. I think tha...

Re: M1 Apple Silicon for Chess?
Believing that there is some magical advantage of ARM architecture compared to x86 is pure BS. Architecturally I believe AMD's design is much more advanced. If they were on the same process node they'd be far superior in terms of processing power/W that today is probably equal. why bs? 2x more regs...

Re: M1 Apple Silicon for Chess?
Many claims about the superiority of the M1's as a CPU are exaggerated. I argued earlier how the power efficiency comparisons with desktop x86 CPUs are highly misleading. I don't like apple either (from a dev's perspective), in general I don't like how the company behaves. but I'm really impressed ...

Re: Lc0 in CCC matches
I have boxes of GPU cards and machines I could put them into. I have had lots of friends tell me that I should mine crypto-currency. Indeed, I could probably make thousands of dollars per month doing so. Nope. To offset the cost of electricity you burn you need a card with at least 6GB of DDR5 memo...

Re: Lc0 in CCC matches
GPUs are also getting more powerful. Every 6 months or so, there will be a new crop, much more powerful than the previous. I think the real problem with the LC0 approach right now is the miners who are hoarding the GPU cards. It ramps up the price to sky-high and makes it hard for people to get the...
