Re: Thread overhead in C++

In that thread you don't only check time but also if there is console input, this could be the reason that it takes a noticeable amount of time. Checking time with GetTickCount64() or std::high_resolution_clock() goes so fast that you won't notice this when you do this every 5ms. Starting and joinin...

Re: Big trouble with a new pc

If you want to train neural networks the E5-2699 will do fine if it has enough memory. What you need is a very fast graphics card (GPU). Even training on a mid-class GPU like the RTX-2060S or RTX-2070 goes ten times faster than training on a very fast CPU. For training I use both a RTX-2060S and a R...

Re: Big trouble with a new pc

Since it is a Xeon processor most of the overclocking features in the BIOS won't work. The Gigabyte GA-X99 Gaming 5 supports the E5-2699 v4 from BIOS version F22 and up, so this should not be a problem. The base clock for the E5-2699 v4 is 2.2 Ghz. Yours is an engineering sample, that's why the base...

Re: larger nets for SF?

hmmm... I see a difference in style of play and FRC was certainly better, but Elo gain from doubling? - from whatever possible gain was obtained, it does not appear to be worth the extra 20MB of space to store... just my $.02 .. I do like the fact that Albert tried something new and maybe he is on ...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney April

For the record Rpiforchess was playing last Corchess engine on Pi4. Never heard of Corchess. After looking for it on the internet I found it's just a Stockfish clone, like so many nowadays. Yeah. The author claims he modified some code to have better results in Long Time Controls for Correspondance...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney April

Here is what I have found so far on the Schooner crash. From the debug event viewer just before the crash: The hypervisor did not enable mitigations for CVE-2018-3646 for virtual machines because HyperThreading is enabled and the hypervisor core scheduler is not enabled. To enable mitigations for C...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney April

This time there were some issues. Harm Geerts computer broke down, Liesebeth forfeited his 4 engines but somehow the games were still hanging when the next round started. Igel had issues starting his games, so Liesebeth decided to forfeit him because the tourney was already delayed too much. To make...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney April

Without GUI you can use ICSDrone, there are several people using this. I'm pretty sure Arasan uses this too.
