Critter uses anonymous unions and typed enums, so I guess that makes it somewhat C++11 (-ish) too.

potential deadlock in syzygy reference implementation

https://github.com/syzygy1/Stockfish/blob/master/src/tbprobe.cpp#L136 in function probe_wdl_table(), there is a return statement at line 136 which exits the function without releasing the mutex first: if (!ptr->ready) { LOCK(TB_mutex); if (!ptr->ready) { char str[16]; prt_s...

Re: GCC 4.8 made me chose Clang

I made a very stupid mistake today: updated my Ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10. * clang does not accept flto (link time optimization). It does. You just need to enable the gold linker (ubutu 13.10 defaults to vanilla gnu ld): ln -s -f /usr/bin/ld.gold /usr/bin/ld ... and correct some screwed up paths in...

I have no meaningful objection about prepending 'syzyg...

<off topic> Yesterday I became a father

October 15th, 2013: Richard Vida junior was born. There are no words to describe the joy I am feeling in my soul. I don't remember ever seeing a child with so much optimism like what radiates from my son - he smiles all the time (except when feeding). I love him so much... http://imageshack.com/a/im...

Re: UCI 2- protocol for more chess engines

Officially there is no such thing as UCI2. The Arena GUI identifies an engine as UCI2 if it offers certain options (UCI_AnalyseMode and/or UCI_LimitStrength + UCI_Elo).
