Re: Extracting quiet positions?

Hello, I'm looking for ways to extract quiet positions from an epd file while preserving existing comments, bestmove, etc., information. I have a few million positions and just need to get rid of the noisiest ones. Are there any scripts or programs to do this? If not, does anyone have recommendatio...

Re: PGN standard

I think I would prefer "side on move" In the document the phrase active color refers to side on move (as also observed by Deberger for consistency). If you really insist on "side on move" I will add it with or like this. ... An en passant target square is given if and only if the last move was a pa...

That's one race where you really don't want to be the winner.

Racing bar chart

I came across this beautiful visualizer trying to plot COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/2550086/

I thought this is also good to plot the rating of engines by year.

Re: PGN standard

Years ago Tord Romstad suggested to create a PGN replacement format in https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/47fexz/towards_a_replacement_for_the_pgn_format/ Does anyone know was it evolved to something concrete? It would be interesting to see how they improved the readability of the existing for...

Re: PGN standard

This is great news. About that en passant target square :-) http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?p=588125#p588125 The original FEN specification is incorrect concerning the en passant target square. The correct version is: The en passant target square which appears as the fourth field of a FEN...

Re: PGN standard

Probably won't happen, but it would be good to see a PGN 2.0 that cleans up some of the complaints and ambiguities. Added a github repo to attempt to update the PGN standard. https://github.com/fsmosca/PGN-Standard We can create issues and we try to solve/clarify it. We will be revising the PGN-Sta...

What confused me is that the same standard document mentions "1. ... c5" in section 16.1.4. What can one do with a self-contradicting standard...
This one,

Code: Select all

And then after 1. ... c5:
is only a comment describing the fields of the FEN. That comment is not in movetext section.
