Gave his opponent too much work to doDann Corbit wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 3:53 amYes, Ne2 draws with best play. Nd5 ought to lose. But I guess because Tal did it, it scared the ever-loving piss out of his opponent and he blundered.

If it indeed draws vs best play, and it was from an even position, then Nd5 is indeed a great move.
Indeed, it clears lines for both bishops, facing the king, which is quite a wonderful thing.

Re: Tal's bold and reckless 16. Nd5
I think a modern day engine would instantly defend this and crush Tal. Even the chess app on chess.com, in instant mode, level 25. I know tal cleared the diagonals for his 2 bishops, but i dont see he has a win because of that So, alas! We cannot follow the example of our greatest masters of yestery...

Even if he is not top for a change, i expect he will say that he has been top enough times without fail, and he can always be top when he needs to. And that it's foolish for anyone to think he is going down, just because he wasn't being hims...

Doesn't look to me like its not gm level at instant, level 25.
Didn't someone say it's actually komodo?
(I personally used to be at least around 2300. I came to talkchess in the first place because of my craze for chess).

Re: Sure no one here can beat this simple free smartphone engine!
I'm sure this engine, for your pocket android, and free, is way way stronger than the monster deeper blue that beat kasparov in 1997. I have no idea which engine is behind, but I played against SF fixed depth 10 and SF lost after some struggle. Than I tried SF depth 16 and it totally mopped the flo...
