Re: New engine releases & news 2021

Hi Norman, thanks for the new version, including source code :) I tested 8.0 privately under CEGT conditions. Does it make sense to re-test, i.e. is 8.1 stronger/different/weaker  than 8.0? Or can I use the games from 8.0 for our list? I have no problem to re-test if you think it's better. Th...

Re: Hardest chess variant for human

Which chess variants do humans find hardest, leading to mate against humans in less moves than regular chess? Are there any variants where humans including grand masters make frequent tactical blunders, as the calculations are far too complex for a human, but simple for the computer. Any chess vari...

Re: 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel

One of my nieces told me about this game, and she was all excited. I had never heard about it before. Your opinion? Peter With regards to creating engines for 5D chess, the high branching factor of the game means that MCTS is probably much more effective than AB search for engines, and the lack of ...

Re: Top Engines are still too materialistic they need the what is statement

Chessqueen has a habit of posting on talkchess about not knowing how to use specific engines or analysis programs. Today it is Stockfish derivatives such as Crystal and Sugar, a few days ago it is the recently released Igel 3.0. They ought to do some research by themselves before asking the communit...

Re: CCRL 40/15, 40/2 and FRC lists updated (10th April 2021)

Igel 3.0.0 is ahead of Houdini 6 at the rating list. It's now in 3th place ( I don' t count the Stockfish clone Fat Fritz). Congratulations to Volodymyr Shcherbyna and Dietrich Kappe. It's not statistically significant yet to say that Igel is better than Houdini in 40/15. The elo difference between...

Re: Is Talkchess still the centre of computer chess programming?

Frank, your discussion about chess GUIs and neural networks is off topic. I kindly ask you to start a new discussion about that.

Re: Is Talkchess still the centre of computer chess programming?

More comments from the other thread from somebody who missed my comment: What exactly is the incentive to help people who come into the forum working on their first ever move generator? Obviously its a kind thing to do. If someone who knows all the tricks of the trade thinks himself to be too good t...
