Re: What program first used hard pruning?

It would seem then that in many cases, 'worse' moves were pruned, which would have otherwise been chosen by the shallow search; Indicating that a static pruning condition can be smarter than a shallow search ... interesting.

I wonder what these conditions were?

Re: position from Kramnik Carlsen at Bilbao

Why then when you play the move it ups the score almost immediately when looking at (I assume) the same moves along that "line"? Your assumption is probably wrong. The forcing of the other move, will inevitably change the search tree in numerous ways: Different Lines will be considered. Hope t...

There are several. (eg AVG, Avast, Avira, ...) but I have reason to believe Microsoft Security Essentials is a very good way to go.

I have had No bad experiences or reports.

And after all, they have the most to gain to make it work well. And, it is FREE.

Re: bizarre repetition detection issue

Only fly in the ointment. Why "4"? Any other number is worse than 4, so what is magic about testing for repetition after 4 plies rather than after 3 or 5, etc? Disallowing these hurts Elo as measured by my usual testing. I suppose this makes some sense, since a repetition means no re...

Re: Off Topic Free AntiVirus till Nov 1, 2010

I have been using and recommending MS Security Essentials for many months now, with no problems. It is also free.

Has anyone had a problem with it?

Re: Q for Dann and Swami

Thank you again, Dann.

Xpdnt is scoring somewhere around 77% over-all of STS @ 10s/pos
It has particular trouble with the pawn advances.
