Re: want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

For those of you who want to try Chessbd under Windows 7 The Chessbd install file to download is slic26v8.exe. On another forum, I received the following response re executing slic26v8.exe in Windows 7: slic26v8.exe is a 32-bit version. It can run under Windows 7, adjusting in properties -- compati...

Re: Using Freeware AI and Dynamically Generated Endgame Tablebases

I don't think you appreciate how the nets learn, particularly the so-called "zero" approach.
The smoke clears; thanks for explaining this. Very interesting subject.

Re: want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

In XBoard you would create a variation by just playing its first move with the Shift key pressed...When you are done, you just hit 'Revert' to discard the variation and return to the game at the branching point, or hit 'Annotate' to add the variation to the PGN as a 'recursive variation', and retur...

Re: Using Freeware AI and Dynamically Generated Endgame Tablebases

A neural net can make mistakes with code that is entirely bug-free ... So if the programmer+grandmaster can't explain the losing move it might not be a bug in the code. However, it could still be a coding bug, couldn't it? Further, if the programmer+grandmaster feel that the Neural Net has so many ...

Re: want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

To H.G. Muller: Thanks for the detailed instructions. Based on your description of XBoard and my experience with Chessbd, it seems as if you have nailed it; it seems as if the corresponding functionality is available in XBoard. It will take me a few days to experiment and then report back, in this s...

Re: want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

I just downloaded and started to run slic26v8.exe in Fedora 30, under wine. It looks like the installer was going to work . For those who want to directly see what I am referring to, if you can't get the installer to work, can you provide free cloud storage (or any other facility) for me to upload a...

Re: want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

If you google : "Chessbd" you will see the following link: http://www.dfong.com/chessbd/index.html I can verify that it runs under wine in (for example) Fedora 30. Certainly, after hearing my query's responses, I will have to compromise in order to submit variations to the analysis of an engine. I w...

Re: want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

"...though copying the game, opening a GUI, and pasting it to the new instance, and jumping to the relevant position, ..." Then this is what I'll have to settle for. However, most of the time I will be examining a chess study, which begins with me setting up a position. This means that before I can ...

Re: want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

Mostly, this is for manually stepping through an existing PGN (or PGN from a book), where I consider recursive variations, hopefully having an engine analyze as I step through. However, I would like to be able to record my work, so I would like to be able to save the analysis. A typical use would be...

want freeware gui with separate analysis window(s)

I am looking for a linux compatible chess freeware whose gui allows creating a 2nd variations window, similar to what the old Windows software called Chessbd provided (see image below). I would also like the gui to include an engine or allow connection to a separate engine (e.g. stockfish). Does any...
