Re: Why does TCEC use unbalanced opening?

Do you want the best quality chess, or just artificial entertainment? Best quality chess from positions that matter. Balanced positions don't matter anymore as they are too easily drawn by current engines on current hardware. I would love someone to prove me wrong on this. I am willing to offer 100...

Re: Why does TCEC use unbalanced opening?

True, today the best chess engines play in the best games blitz of the best GM in long TC, but an engine with more time can show us how to beat it Really? Please explain how giving an engine more time to think will "show us how to beat it"? I completely don't follow your reasoning. My reasoni...

Re: Why does TCEC use unbalanced opening?

I'd like to see TCEC return to using balanced openings, with perhaps a 6 moves per side limit. And 96 draws out of 100. Do you want the best quality chess, or just artificial entertainment? Best quality chess is agreeing to a draw right after starting the clock (both 32 men tbs). And frankly, I can...

Re: Why does TCEC use unbalanced opening?

https://tcec-chess.com/articles/TCEC_Openings_FAQ.html I find the match with time odd as a better solution. Quote: "you will see some openings where one color has no realistic winning chances and the game is all about successfully holding a draw from an almost desperate position." If 10:1 time odd ...

I think it's almost impossible to win SF anymore from balanced opening with TCEC harware! Chess is practically solved now.
Not with time odd! Otherwise it would make no sense to use lomg TC

Re: Why does TCEC use unbalanced opening?

Maybe also do a third superfinal with both sides with equal time but blitz (12'+1" vs 12'+1" or 9'+3" vs 9'+3"), For more information on scaling

Why does TCEC use unbalanced opening?

I understand that the draws at this level are very high, But I don't find unbalanced openings interesting. I'd rather see two superfinals, Where in one an engine has to play with time odd, for example 120'+10" vs 12'+1" or 90'+30" vs 9'+3". This would allow us to have much more information: - How is...

Is "Pure" NNUE strong also in losing position?

I was analyzing a match played between Cfish with pure NNUE eval vs rybka 1.0 started with knight odd in a blitz game (2'+1"), to understand if the NNUE are good for playing losing position 5qkr/1b4p1/pPp1p1Bp/1p1nB3/1P5P/8/2P2PP1/R2R2K1 w - - 0 24 In this position NNUE eval found h5 with -1.5 score...

Re: Can we train a NNUE net for playing unbalanced game?

Stockfish uses the NNUE evaluation when the position is balanced, then move on classical evaluation when the position is unbalanced. Why does this happen? Can we train a particularly effective evaluation net for unbalanced positions? A net with intrinsic contempt! I assume that what you mean by unb...
