Re: Fischer Random Chess (Chess960) Computer Championship

The tournament has finished - here's the results. Crosstable: https://pastebin.com/7YyeJP8W (some of my thoughts on the results): First of all, SFdev did amazing. Somehow the 960 opening positions must give more opportunity for SF to showcase its talent. Interestingly, it failed to beat Komodo thoug...

Fischer Random Chess (Chess960) Computer Championship

Hi! So, for fun and because a lot of people are interested in how the engines (especially Leela) do at Chess960, I have started a tournament. It's 4RR with 16 engines. Nemorino was originally to be included but I couldn't get it working so replaced with SF9. TC is 5+2, hardware is 4 cores CPU and GT...

Re: Question about UCI variants

Thanks for the help! Turns out the debug log revealed it was a very simple issue: spaces in the executable name. (The specific error in the debug log: "194 <UciEngine(1): Unknown command: (2).exe", the executable was named "stockfish (2).exe") I have no clue why this is an issue with only my variant...

Re: Question about UCI variants

Looks OK to me. If an interface would say after this that the engine does not support 'kingofthehill', it should be considered an interface bug. That part works now - I no longer get warnings about not supporting kingofthehill. The current issue is that my engine simply won’t play it. Instead, it p...

Re: Question about UCI variants

Are you sure Stockfish announces the UCI_Variant option as intended? What does it print when you run it from the command line and type 'uci' ? Here's what it prints: uci id name Stockfish 191218 64 id author T. Romstad, M. Costalba, J. Kiiski, G. Linscott option name Debug Log File type string defa...

Re: Question about UCI variants

Thanks all for the help! I have been able to get the warning "this engine does not support kingofthehill" to go away, however I still cannot get it to actually play. Here's what I did: https://github.com/official-stockfish/Stockfish/compare/master...Kurtbusch:urtKdev?expand=1 (only the changes in uc...

Question about UCI variants

So I'm making an engine that plays a variant I created - I've modified cutechess so that the rules of the "king of the hill" variant are now the rules of my variant, so all I have to do is add -variant kingofthehill when using cutechess=cli and make my engine (which is an SF fork) support kingoftheh...

Re: One billion random games

After a lot of trial and error I arrived at the following weight table, on which it was not easy to improve in a way that would be obvious in 1 million games: attacker victim - P N B R Q P 1 400 250 250 250 400 N 1 75 150 75 75 75 B 1 60 60 100 60 100 R 1 40 40 40 60 100 Q 1 6 25 80 80 100 K 1 50 5...
