LCZero vs M-Chess

Post by Martin Hertz »

I've tested some DOS programs against LCZero and it seems, that M-Chess is the most complicated opponent.
I'll continue testing, until M-Chess is not able to win anymore. The conditions for M-Chess are:

- M-Chess 5.0 (1995)
- 3.3 GHz (around 1,000,000 Nodes/sec)
- Maximum hash (10MB)
- Book off
- Ponder on

GREAT opponent!! :D

MChess was one of my favourites of all time.

What is your hardware? Are they both at the same time control?

M-Chess is one of my favorites too. It's running at real DOS on a 3.3 GHz i5, that allows around 1 million nodes/s in average.
The so far used 5 seconds/move gives a search depth of 8-10 plies typically. LCZero is set to hard mode (2000 playouts).
I will increase the thinking time of M-Chess, as soon as 5 seconds are not enough to beat LCZero.

You're not tempted to run LCZero on your own PC? If you have a decent graphics card, it'll be a lot stronger.

Unfortunately my windows notebook is too old for running LCZero directly.
Maybe I will try it later with better hardware. Thanks for the note.

Amazing !!
I remember the time when M-Chess was running on a fast machine (486DX2@66MHz) at around 5000 nodes/sec

I first got MChess 1.71 running on my 12 MHz 286. It ran at 500 nodes/sec :)

In this time, I used an Amiga 500. My first PC compatible was a 486@33MHz around 1992.
