I think I have seen similar posts since 2007 from you.
But there's an interesting position from your game after move 135 of black.
136.e6! of SF9 could destroy your position,
but very strange why SF9 don't want to open the position even with +8 advantage. Still an SF9 weakness, I guess.

Test Position, find an engine that would play 136.e6! to open up the game and destroy black.

Problem might be, that from 37 possible moves only 5 have an eval lower than +7.
:)
So there simply isn't any reason for the engine for moves like e6 to chose bevor 50 moves boundary comes into horizon, I guess.

But you're right, it's just a matter of a few moves forward from e6 and backtracking them to see evals rise for your move.

Here's 2MV output after some Forward Backward:

Note 136.e6 isn't necessary, and in the last position where black "won", white still has b5!! to break the position and destroy black. Though it can be planned better than played immediately.

The problem here is that Stockfish is fully capable of playing 200 or 300 moves and destroy Pablo every single time, but he's playing against a glitchy GUI that adds lag so that eventually Pablo defeats the GUI on time. I think the "Move Overhead" setting has to be adjusted to account for this, so Pablo can't flag the engine in a position that is lost for Pablo OTB.
Your beliefs create your reality, so be careful what you wish for.

Any faster one on single thread than Zappa Mex.2 with Eval Kingsafety Scoring raised to max. (500)?

Post by Father »

Thanks you very much for your help Mike, Peter, and Ulisses P.

I have a question for everybody here:

I have a question and a complaint; The question is addressed to all, and the complaint is addressed especially to journalists and sports commentators of the chess science game. I consider that the silence on the part of the press specialized in chess and computers, in relation to the innumerable examples of victories against computers and softwares that I have placed for more than 15 annuities, represent an injustice against the truth, and perpetuate the falsehood and the lie in the state of the art of the struggle of man against chess machines. I do not claim any kind of recognition, I claim transparency and veracity in the dissemination of specialized media. Silence condemns them all, since only truth is the way that guarantees freedom.

Respectfully,

Pablo Ignacio Restrepo

A human being
I am thinking chess is in a coin.Human beings for ever playing in one face. Now I am playing in the other face:"Antichess". Computers are as a fortres where owner forgot to close a little door behind. You must enter across this door.Forget the front.

Hi Pablo!

You're right.

No matter if it's a very specialized achievement of yours to win against engines by utilizing GUI's weakness of excepting premoves and taking the engines' computing- time in this way, it yet has to be made anyhow to reach positions of no easy progress anymore and exploiting engines' weakness to "see" that soon enough still.

The reason I didn't acknowledge that publicly till now might be the same reason as I think it to be the point with others here too, we just have got used to these games of yours brought along here now and then.

Yet I don't think it's as easy as some might think, I for sure wouldn't be able to do that as well as you.

Best regards

Test Position, find an engine that would play 136.e6! to open up the game and destroy black.
Any faster one on single thread than Zappa Mex.2 with Eval Kingsafety Scoring raised to max. (500)?
:)

Edit:

Got one already, Junior 11.2 with some more parameter-screwing:

Also single thread.
Thanks for the lines, ProDeo and Komodo would also probably play e6 with some slightly modified values,
though would become weaker in its games.

136.e6! of SF9 could destroy your position

You have indeed a valid point about the lag, i think even worse lag/latency if done online on a blitz or bullet.

slight modification to highlight e6 urgency
I slightly modified the original position happend in game to test the theory that b5! move is
still possible so e6! push was not yet played by SF9.
But the weakness is apparent, SF9 is still having difficulty with e6 move.
[d]1n2b3/2nrk2p/p1p3pP/PpPpPpP1/1P1BpP2/4Q3/6RR/1K6 w - - 0 136
(modified b7 transfered to b5, Ra8 transfered to Rd7, Nf8 transfered to c7)
This is a modification to give e6 move an urgency, but SF9 won't still play it.
Note that Ke6 would be the next move of black to complete the fortress setup.

But anyway, I agree, this is just a fortress issue and was already heavily discussed in
other threads being an achilles heel of engines. But maybe the point of GrandFathers game can easily be solved by
giving a good bonus if total pawns on board is 12 or less (which means some pawns should be captured to
allow open diagonals and files). Probably a formulaic bonus that increases when pawns are
reduced further (the lesser the better) and more pieces are maintained (the more the merrier),
which would steer the game into a difficult tactical battle where SF would surely outclass humans and other engines.
I remember evaluate.c in old versions of crafty have these type of eval term, lesser pawns and more pieces.
Haven't peeked at newer versions of crafty though.

Really? Pablo's techniques are apparent and formulaic, I reckon if you trained for a year you could learn the quirks of the systems, and manage to achieve Pablo's success like he does.

Probably nobody in their right mind would spend that much time training themselves to achieve it, but it's not magic.

Don't mind my previous post regarding modified position, I was wrong.
e6! move found by SF9 at higher depth.
