TCEC Season 11: 2nd Division

The 2nd Division of season 11 started yesterday, Jan 14th. It is a 2 x Double round robin event with 8 participants:

2. Bobcat 8
3. Texel 1.08a8
4. Vajolet2 2.5
5. Wasp TCEC S11
6. Arasan 20.4.1
7. Fritz 16
8. Laser 1.5

My take, Fritz and Texel, in that order

Fritz is now at position 7/8 after one loss with Black's connection stalls! Did Rybka ever lose that way?

Arasan has a big disadvantage in TCEC: it does not scale well on the high core counts they use. Right now it is playing Texel and Arasan is getting about 9m nps, while Texel is at 70m. It is on my to-fix list.

Luckily Fritz 16 is nowhere near promotion to the next division.

My take: a company that sticks to repackaging obsolete engines (for 70 euros) without adding significant elo jumps and stubbornly refuses to sell the GUI without an engine simply doesn't deserve to get anywhere near 1st division.

The first half of 2nd Division is completed. We are at halfway of 3rd Division. Jonny with 10.5/14 and Laser with 10.0/14 are the leaders, Texel is 0.5 points behind Laser. Remember: Top two will be promoted to 1st division and bottom two will be relegated to 3rd division.

2nd Division of season 11 has been played completely. Jonny (undefeated) and Laser (coming from 3rd division) are promoted to 1st Division where they will play vs Andscacs, Booot, Gull, Fizbo, Hannibal and Nirvana. Bobcat and Wasp are relegated, so they will play in 3rd Division of season 12. 1st Division start time will be announced soon.
