Since Komodo shows a mate score for 42...Ke5, how is it suboptimal? Maybe there is a shorter mate, but Syzygy doesn't care about that.

Yes, although it certainly looked like Komodo would lose game 2. This makes 21 straight games without a loss giving two pawns to GMs. Maybe the streak will end tomorrow. I wonder what Kasparov would say, since he introduced the two pawn handicap in a match with a British tycoon who is now an FM. But Kasparov always gave the "a" pawn as one of them, so more like 1 1/2 pawn handicap.

Maybe it's appropriate time to enhance from 2 pawns to 2.5 pawns for GM opponents?

It's already a bit more than jus 2 pawns, since one of them in this match is always the "g" pawn, one of the two worst pawns to give up, and we don't allow taking off rook pawns. I suppose 2.5 pawns could mean human gets white every game and g7 or f7 plus another pawn of his choice (but not both) every game, no repeats allowed. Exchange and a pawn, queen for two minors, knight for pawn are other options we have tried. Anyway let's see what happens today first.

I think that GM's should play better not to lose in these conditions.

I expected a GM to play better rook endgames and to know how to defend against a passed pawn in rook endgame and the plan to generate a passed pawn after a3 is clear.

c3 is the place for the king when the king can hide from checks and not for the pawn.

Game 3 was complicated, Izoria kept his advantage for 18 moves, then got short of time and started to make mistakes.

Yes, exchange plus pawn plus move like that is a fair option. We may try it.

I am pretty sure we only have 5 piece Syzygy on this machine.
