As far as I am concerned, games starting with 1.a4, 1.Na3, 1.Nh3 etc are totally uninteresting.

+1

Add 1.a3, 1.h3, 1.h4, 1.g4 and 1.f3 into that lot as well.

they are uninteresting from a practical viewpoint, but could be fun from an entertainment perspective (I, for one, like them)

still, since such interest is not consensual among viewers, TCEC should steer away form them

Great to hear, Robert!

As for my personal pov, I'd rather have H6 to buy some weeks later (as for TCEC- start a development- version would do it too, wouldn't it? :)) but then with a revival of its learning- file, which H4 still had but H5 no longer till now anymore, which was a pity to me.

Stronger engine with more elo gain is more important than the learning file...

But a learning file you need not activate will not damage Elo, will it?

And the code that already existed for H4 might be still usable in a way, so it would probably cost less time to renew the code for the learning file than the one for gaining Elo, don't you think so too, Damir?

If the code is rewritten in such way so it ads more elo gain, than the learning file becomes unecessary, and may only damage Houdini performance. :) 8-)

May I ask you again, how a learning file should damage the performance?

If it does so being activated and filled with nonsense, it's a user- stumble that you can avoid easily by not activating it.

BTW it's not for over the board eng-eng mainly anyhow as you probably do know, don't you

I think you should ask Robert this question, since he removed the learning file in the first place. He must have had a very good reason to do so...
