This position still gives Stockfish a difficult time on my computer (20 core dual xeon with 16GB hash), also Houdini 5.01 tactical doesn't seem to do much better, neither one solves in 10 minutes.

both engines seem to like 24.Bc7, but the best move is the exchange sacrifice 24.Rxd5! busting up black's position and wreaking havoc with threats to the black king with the white bishops and white queen.

I would go for Bf4, maybe there are even subtler moves:

[d]r2r1q1k/5p1p/4pP2/pppb3Q/1b3B2/1P4P1/5PBP/R2R2K1 b - - 0 1

is it certain that Rd5 is best?

Thanks Andrew, this does not seem very difficult for almost default Stockfish development version:

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

sorry Eelco,

I am doing many things at the same time/analysing many positions simultaneously, so probably I am doing everything wrong,
but where is white win after d4:

[d]r2r1q1k/5p1p/5P2/ppp1B2Q/1b1p4/1P4P1/5PBP/3R2K1 w - - 0 3

my SF does not see it.

ok, it sees high scores after white's g4, followed by Rd3 to swing to h3, have to feed it manually to SF, seems to be too deep for it, but is it won?

in one of the lines I get here:

[d]8/3R1pkp/5b2/5K2/5P2/8/7P/8 w - - 0 29

anyone with 8-men?

Hi Lyudmil,

Well, it's possible I broke Stockfish, but on the other hand the idea from Stockfish seems okay; d4 makes possible to play Be4 with an immediate mate threat on h7. Qg8 is forced but now both king and queen are locked in their castle, White plays g4 and then lifts the rook to d3 then h3.
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

ok, here is the fully forced line: Rd5!!(??) ed5 Rd1 d4 Be4 Qg8 g4 Re8 Rd3 c4 Rh3 Re5 Qe5 Re8 Qf4 Re4 Qe4 c3:

[d]6qk/5p1p/5P2/pp6/1b1pQ1P1/1Pp4R/5P1P/6K1 w - - 0 10

is this necessarily won for white?

I get to mostly some possible fortresses.

with the end result a possible fortress...? :)

I know why people hate me, I ask too many questions and analyse too little.

"My" Stockfish sees that in 8 seconds, on a few spare threads :)
, but is it won?
It's won if you can show that White is winning here:
[D]8/5p1k/5Pqp/p1pQ4/1b5P/1P4P1/1B3PK1/8 w - -

But it could be drawn, score does not change anymore and neither does the PV
