This bug has been fixed with the release of 11.2.1. Thanks to you and to Dann Corbit for pointing it out (in different positions).

Hi Larry,

You're welcome.

Perhaps you can also take a look at game 53? It seems Komodo is missing something 2 moves before the end of the game.

Kind regards, Jeroen

Hi Bram,

Maybe you could try the Mar del Plata II testsuite next? Should also lead to enterprising games....!

Thanks in advance,

Jeroen

No, I don't think so. Other strong programs like Gull and Fritz 15 also don't see a huge White advantage quickly even in the final position. Indeed, the game is only "over" at that point due to a computer adjudication; probably human GMs would not resign. White is up a piece for a pawn, but with only one pawn left for White and two advancing Black passers it requires a lot of analysis to prove a White win. I don't know how Stockfish sees it so early; maybe it's speculative evaluation, or just that the Stockfish search works well in this position.

Hi Larry,

Looking at the game output, Komodo expected 60.Kd2 after 59... f3. But instead 60.Bc5! is much stronger, leading to a drop in Komodo's score to -3.54 at the next move. So IMO Komodo missed this 60.Bc5! move. The win is quite easy after 60... Kf5 61.b8Q Nxb8 62.Nxb8 Bf6 63.d6, when my Houdini 5.01 already has +13 for white on my slow notebook within a few seconds.

When I feed the position after 59... f3 to Houdini 5.01, it also thinks white is just at +1, expecting 60.Kd2. But as soon as it finds 60.Bc5! the score quickly rises to +2 and not much later +6.

I agree with you that it is odd the GUI already awards the game to white, while Komodo's score hasn't even reached -5.
