On-line engine blitz tourney March

The monthly on-line engine blitz tourney for March will take place on:

Saturday March 18, 3pm Boston time (21:00 Amsterdam time)

To connect:

winboard -zp -ics -icshost winboard.nl -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz

(for UCI engines, add -fUCI)

Note: this assumes no one is on Daylight Saving Time yet.

US already switched to summer time, so now 9pm in Amsterdam is 4pm (not 3pm) in Boston.

OK, thanks for pointing this out. I never understood how they decide on the date to do this. I once missed a plane in San Diego on April 7 because they switched time that day, and no one had bothered to point it out. (Most clocks were also still on winter time because no one had bothered to change them on a Sunday morning.)

That is probably because there is not really anything to understand. DST is controlled by arbitrarily defined rules that are different in different parts of the world and the rules are also often modified. Some examples from the changelog for the linux tzdata package:

* Sun Mar 12 2017
- Mongolia no longer observes DST

* Thu Nov 03 2016
- Pacific/Tongatapu now begins DST on 2016-11-06 at 02:00 and ends
on 2017-01-15 at 03:00.

* Wed Oct 26 2016
- DST ends in Asia/Gaza and Asia/Hebron on 2016-10-29 at 01:00,
not the predicted date of 2016-10-21 at 00:00.

* Wed Jul 06 2016
- Egypt cancelled DST.

* Fri Jun 17 2016
- Africa/Cairo starts DST on July 7 24:00 and ends on October 27
at 24:00.

* Thu Mar 24 2016
- Azerbaijan no longer observes DST.
- Chile changes from permanent DST to seasonal DST.

In summary, the whole system is a big mess.

A chat window opens automatically if you use winboard as above. At least I never did anything special for that purpose.

Regarding your account(s), maybe you should contact HGM directly?
