Rebooting is always a good idea, you can also try to run fsck to see if there is something wrong with the file-system on that particular drive.

Well, so it is hopeless. The rebooting of the VPS did not cure it. I have no other ideas. I tried fsck, and it warned me that this would pretty much destroy the file system if I do it on a mounted device. But this is the system device, so I cannot possibly unmount it.

This time the last logged command was a simple move. But the move before the same engine kibitzed a score of +99.96, so it could very well be a mating move, which would trigger game end and a lotof action.

What about starting it from gdb? Or at least run:
ulimit -c unlimited
before starting the ics?
I have a feeling the core size limit is default 0.
