YAT is a tournament for authors only. It's a different type of competition to promote and create interest in the neglected areas of computer chess, such as:
1. Opening books
2. Usage of databases
3. Book learning
4. Position learning
5. Opponent learning
Second edition with full online support of all 1080 games started today.

CCRL and CEGT (raw engine testing) are all nice but in reality programs can play a lot stronger when all posibilities are given attention.

Re: YAT second edition
I really like this format. It's much better than TCEC and other formats that impose a bunch of arbitrary restrictions on what can be done with available resources and at what position the game starts. My personal opinion is that each program should be given equal computational and storage resources to be used any way the programmer sees fit. The games should be played from the standard starting position with thinking on the opponents time just like a human tournament and each opponent has the right to know who the opposition is and there rating if any. Kudos to you and the participants for supporting this format!
It's definitely a step in the right direction IMHO.

Zen

Re: YAT second edition
The setup is basically SSDF, they allow (support) option 1-4, option-5 (opponent learning is the only new thing). It's a pity they are hardly visible nowadays.
What I would wish is that this type of competition (as it was the standard in the 80's and 90's) is resurrected again by a group of enthusiastic folks creating a rating list next to the existing ones, SSDF alike but with option-5.
Meaning, testing engines out of the box. If an engine comes with a crappy book and/or without learning facilities then it likely will lose considerable elo in comparison with the existing rating lists.
Competition always has been the motor of progress, someone just need to create the environment for it.
There are good book editors out there, (Noomen, Kure, Necci, Dufek, etc.), give them something to do again.
