Sigh. Can't make it this weekend on either day. Oh well, hopefully next month.

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney November
I am going to try to be there myself. I am experimenting with a no-LMR version...hgm wrote:The monthly on-line engine blitz tourney for November will take place on:

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney November
On Windows:
1) start WinBoard by double-clicking the winboard.exe icon
2) In the startup dialog, tick: 'Use an Internet Chess Server'
3) In the 'Specify Chess Server' field of the same dialog, type: winboard.nl
4) Press 'OK'
5) A text window will pop up with the ICS welcome screen, asking for you to login.
6) Type "Graham" (or any other name you want to use) in the lower field of that window, and press <Enter>
7) Press <Enter> again
8) You are now logged on to the ICS, and can issue ICS commands by typing them in the lower field. Important commands for spectators are:
a) "help"
b) "games" (to get a list of all ongoing games
c) "mam 1 games" (to get a list of all games that should be playing for the current tourney round; 1 is the tourney number)
d) "mam 1 who" (to get a ranked list of participants and their results)
e) "tell Johnny any text" (to send the text to Johnny)
f) "tell 64 any text" (to broadcast the text on channel 64, to which most people are listening
g) "obs playername" (to start watching the game of the named player)
h) "unobs" (to stop watching that game)
i) "who"(to see who is logged on to the ICS)
Note WinBoard also has dedicated chatboxes, in which you can type the name of a logged-on person or channel at the top, and then any text you will type at the bottom will be send (automatically prefixed by "tell thatperson") when you hit enter, and in which anything he sends you will appear (instead of in the general window), so you can more easily conduct private conversations free of chatter.
To not clutter the general text window with engine kibitz of the game you are watching, tick "auto-kibitz" in the ICS Options dialog, and open the Engine Output window through the "View" menu (if it is not yet open). The engine kibitz will then appear there.
