The monthly on-line engine blitz tourney for September will take place on:

Saturday September 19, 3pm Boston time (21:00 Amsterdam time)

To connect:

winboard -zp -ics -icshost winboard.nl -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz

(for UCI engines, add -fUCI)

I'm using xboard for the first time and there isn't a -zp command line option? Does that matter? Is there an alternative?

I also get kicked out immediately if I add the -ucshelper timeseal option.

I can login if I leave the -zp and -ucshelper timeseal options off. But my engine doesn't move when I start a match against POS.

I have xboard 4.7.3 (comes with Fedora 22).

Any help would be appreciated.

The -zp ('zippy mode') option is essential; it tells XBoard it has to use BOTH an engine and connect to the ICS. The zippy code is not by default included in XBoard. It has to be switched on during the building process with an option to ./configure:

./configure --enable-zippy --with-gtk
make
sudo make install

Apparently the version distributed with Fedora has not been built this way. So I guess you would have to install a zippy-enabled XBoard from source.

Tried building using --with-gtk and the resulting binary gives me a blank window. Uninstalled and rebuilt without the --with-gtk option (uses Xll, Xaw) and same problem but there are at least some empty squares getting drawn on the blank window.

Any other suggestions?

I was able to get winboard under wine working (sort of). The command input box isn't handling line endings correctly. Treats every ENTER as 2 returns. So I couldn't log in at first, but a copy/paste of the username and password together got passed that.

Hopefully there aren't any commands I need to enter that expect a second input after the first command, 'cuz if they do they're gonna get an empty string for the second input.

Anyone know how to fix this?

After a few participants were suddenly hit by connection trouble Myrddin did not come back, and forfeited its last 3 games.

KingSlayer was the engine that last time participated under the name Simple.

I ran an old version of Sjaak II from the VM on my laptop to test XBoard in ICS mode.

Bitfoot had time trouble, and forfeited a lot of games on time.
