JA Linux Chess Distros Available

Post by Jim Ablett »

I've finally finished remastering my Puppy Linux distros for chess. Following suggestions, in addition to Scid vc PC (docked window mode enabled). ChessX, Jose, Eboard & Xboard-Gtk are also pre-installed & configured. Every free Linux chess engine I could get to work properly is also pre-installed. Both 64 bit & 32 bit isos are available for download.

Here are some screenshots:

I put a little web page where you can download them >

Any feedback/comments are welcome.

Options never hurt, but they take up disk space which is very limited on some devices (Chromebook Pixel). I would suggest to make any and all GUIs and engines optional during the installation process. And I would also add Wine to those options, for users wanting to give CB9 a try under Linux.
Really good project Jim.

I updated the 32 bit version of the distro. Added Pychess & Raptor & fixed a few bugs & updated the chess software to the latest versions.

Raptor is a nice Fics interface. Here is a screen shot of me viewing a GM vs GM game and analyzing the moves at the same time with Komodo.

The 'FINAL' 32 bit edition of my Linux chess distro is available now.

It has 'Cutechess', 'Jin' & (under Wine) 'Crafty Gui' & 'Kvetka' installed.

I won't be updating it anymore (except the 64 bit edition to bring it in line with the 32 bit edition). It does everything I want it to do now. Play chess, Engine vs Engine, Analysis, compile engines from src etc.

Here are some screenshot of latest software installed on it:

Jim, I don't even run Linux, but this almost makes me want to. I have to tell you this is some fine piece of work.

All the best,
