Unfortunately I cannot guarantee the ELO performance being same as v1.6. Bug #2 was deep inside the move generator code and caused some moves to be searched twice (not just at the root, but everywhere in the search tree) with an associated performance hit. |
Although this will force testers to retest the engine, it's hard to imagine the bug fix resulting in a decrease in ELO.
Thanks again for your work, Richard. |
Hi,
Unfortunately, from my tests at ultrafast TC and bullet with no increment, basing on many hundred games, it seems that 1.6a could be weaker around 10 elo compared to 1.6, with ponder ON and perhaps even more with ponder OFF (but less games tested in this case).
I noticed that the number of knodes calculated by 1.6a is almost always lower than 1.6. I see that generally the evaluation is different.
I did always games 1.6a against 1.6.
I'm afraid ipon chess will confirm this
decrase.
Anyway of course thanks to Mr Vida for the efforts to solve the bugs reported.

The 10 Elo drop is not an issue if the bugs are sorted out....

If there is a drop in strength, and a slowdown where the expectation was a speedup, something went wrong. |
Hi, of course i agree althought i don't know if a speedup was the expectation. Actually after 294 games bullet 1' +0'' the match scores a decrease of 13 points elo for Critter 1.6a.
P.s. This is the latest match. Previously i did hundred games and the result was about the same.
For the record, adding the games 10'' per game + 1' +0'' per game i have:
utente-PC,
1 Critter 1.6 64-bit +10 +221/=552/-194 51.40% 497.0/967
2 Critter 1.6a 64-bit -10 +194/=552/-221 48.60% 470.0/967
