Hi Mike!

Very nice collection of highlights, thank you and sorry for not having had the time to search for such by myself right now.
I like your third one most, which is not so easy even for Houdini or Stockfish with twelve cores, the other ones Stockfish 2.2.2 solved rather quickly on that hardware at single trials but all of them are really beautiful to my eyes.

The first position is not correct because 65...Rg2+ also draw the game after Kf3 Rgf2+ Ke4 Rfe2+ and later Rxe5+ when the king go to f5 or d5 and it is also a draw after 65...Rf3+

Hi Uri!
You're right as for a testposition with single best move only. I even saw that but didn't care, because any engine showing 0.00 eval with Rg2+ simply would get full points for solving too, as much as Kf3 with any other eval than 0.00 would not.
While I didn't see the latter as an output till now, Rg2+ with winning for White- eval I did get from some engines, in that case, with any other eval than 0.00, even with endless checks in main variant, I'd say not solved as for the theme of the position
Peter.

Indeed, Louis, Critter is rather good in this one.

Re: Five test positions from the »Titans«

Post by Mike S. »

You both are right. For these reasons, I think #1 is not a suitable test position.

After some interactive analysis:

Analysis by Komodo32 3 32bit (Drawscore = 0):

1. = (0.00): 65...Rc3+ 66.Kxf2 Rf3+ 67.Kg1 Rg3+ 68.Kh2 Rg2+ 69.Kh1 Rg1+ 70.Kxg1
2. = (0.00): 65...Rf3+ 66.Kxf3 Rc3+ 67.Ke4 Re3+ 68.Kd4 Re4+ 69.Kd5 Rxe5+ 70.Kd6 Re6+ 71.Kd7 Rd6+ 72.Kc8 Rd8+ 73.Kc7 Rc8+ 74.Kb6 Rc6+ 75.Ka5 Rc5+ 76.Ka4 Rc4+ 77.Kb5 Rc5+ 78.Kxc5
3. = (0.00): 65...Rg2+ 66.Kf3 Rgf2+ 67.Ke4 Rfe2+ 68.Kd5 Rxe5+ 69.Kd4 Rc4+ 70.Kxc4 Rc5+ 71.Kb4 Rb5+ 72.Kc3 Rc5+ 73.Kd3 Rd5+ 74.Kc2 Rc5+ 75.Kb3 Rb5+ 76.Ka4 Rb4+ 77.Ka3 Rb3+ 78.Kxb3

Coming to a 0.00 eval in time, may have saved 0.5 points for Komodo 4 in the tournament, because it looks like resigning was on. Playing Rg2+ with a big eval in favour of White might have led to resignation (depending on the resign threshold).
Regards, Mike
