New Houdini

Post by PawnStormZ »

Thank you Robert for this update!

I had not previously been able to use Houdini in engine matches on my I7 in the Aquarium GUI as it would always crash on the 1st or 2nd move. Also, positions starting with FEN strings could not be analyzed after the initial position because the PV would not display.

Both of those issues have been corrected with version 1.02. I am looking forward to running many matches now, and I have been able to analyze test positions (on which Houdini does very well, I might add) without a problem.

       Keep up the good work!!

Hi Steve,

I don't have the first version of Houdini. There's no file at the site either. However, I could test 1.01 which I have.

Here's the result of Ivanhoe 57a

and for comparison with Houdini 1.02:

Interesting how STS8 jumps out there.
I suspect Houdini made an eval improvement in that area.

I hate to ask a really dumb question but what do all the "S"'s mean?

Thanks

"S" stands for satisfying, second-to-none, sensational, sensational, shining, smashing, spectacular, splendid, splendiferous, splendorous, staggering, stalwart, standout, state-of-the-art, stately, stellar, stirring, striking, strongest, stunning, stupendous, sublime, sumptuous, super, superb, supereminent, superior, superlative, supreme, surpassing, surprising, swanky and swell.
So now you know why it is abbreviated.
