Stockfish 1.5

Post by mcostalba »

Here is Stockfish 1.5

You can download sources from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?0qf4mnzmvkn

Mac OS X and Linux binaries will be setup by Tord, and we kindly ask Jim, as usual, to prepare his super fast Windows builds.

While 1.4 was mostly a parameters tweak release, this time we have added some new and hopefully interesting features here and there. And of course the usual round up of speed optimizations and code clean-up.
The diff stat says it all:

30 files changed, 1999 insertions(+), 2433 deletions(-)

and without considering the increased Makefile (by more then 100 lines) the new release is shrinked by 547 lines of code against 1.4 and -- this is a very important point for us -- even easier to read.

A few notable changes and new features:

* Chess960 support now works as intended

* More complex (and hopefully better) material balance evaluation

* Various minor search tweaks and bug fixes

* Lots of low-level speed optimizations and simplifications everywhere in the code

We would like to special thank Jim Ablett for his patience with us while testing compilers and for his always superb job with the release binaries. Also thanks to Edsel Apostol and to Xiaozhi for reporting and fixing a couple of bugs, and to Heinz van Saanen for contributing an improved Unix makefile.

Have fun!

Best wishes,
Tord Romstad, Marco Costalba, Joona Kiiski

I had a total 3274 downloads reported for Stockfish 1.4.
I didn't think there were that many chess engine users out there. Let's see what we get for 1.5 :)
