Hey guys,
Curious about what is indeed the best GUI for creating, tweaking and editing engine personalities and running tournaments.
It's weird how there are probably 10,000 engines, but about 4 GUIs and all with their flaws.
Arena is pretty good, but sometimes crashes/has bugs.
Fritz GUI seems okay, but doesn't run winboard engines and crashes sometimes.
Shredder GUI.... (can't remember why I abandoned this one).
Please share what you think is the best GUI, including which version and why.
Thanks.

Around 1 million games with Shredder GUI, around 500.000 can be found on my site without any GUI problems. Fritz is a buggy GUI, most problems Arena have in the time I develops with Martin can be fixed with setting in self work. Newer Arena version I don't know.
At the moment I have many fun with CuteChess on my Notebook.
Also ChessGUI is a very nice work and Winboard is indeed fantastic. In Winboard is a lot of very fine detail work to see. The programmer must have many knowledge. Chess Explorer by Mark is also on the way and looks good for that what is included.
Arena ...
Yes, Arena I know the GUI ...
Best

That is because making a GUI takes between 10 and 100 times as much effort as making an engine. So not so weird. Most people just don't have the stamina for it.BrendanJNorman wrote:It's weird how there are probably 10,000 engines, but about 4 GUIs and all with their flaws.
