Sting SF 4.8.3 release

Post by lech »

I hope I may finalize the version 4.8 now.
My new idea ("sacrifices leading to fortress") could be published in a full safe way (ELO).
But,I always remenber about users of slow machines and the version 4.8.3 is far to be only the safe one.
I see a new "horizon effect" weakness and it is a good news for users of Sting.
Thanks to this some next versions of Sting can be much more interesting too.

I added x64 compilation. If users of Sting-sf-483 may have a trouble to start the version please try the other x64-XP or use libraries: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=40784

Let me know about possible troubles.

I am sorry for all who testedi the previous vrsion in play.
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.

Thanks. Under XP X64, the special XP-X64 exe does open and respond to the UCI command, so all is well I think with that.

Many thanks, Marek !!!

This x64-XP version indeed works in Win XP Pro x64
(as Ray also found out)
...and even without those dll's !

and the speed ratio I found with the w32 version (which functions in Win XP 32-bit and not in Win XP Pro x64, but this has no importance) is now +35% !

Ernest, I am very happy what is written by you.
The versions of Sting 4.8.x give a wrong impression like DEMO version.
Indeed, but it is a very important to me to know that my x64 version can work well.

My special thanks to all who were able to help me to do the compilations and to know that it works ok.

One question remains: does it work under newest processors too ? Maybe someone can test it?

I see some wrong effects in Sting SF 4.8.3, but believe me I am able to improve it.

BTW. My idea of Sting is full original and I am out of question what can Vas or Marco work now.

Very impressive! Great chess engine! Finds the right answer to difficult chess problems fast where Stockfish 6 as well as other front runners will flounder.

Thank you very much!

Again, many thanks go to all who can suport the project Sting.

I found the reason (!) why Sting can practically stop on higher depths. :D
It turned out to be very easy to improve and clean my old ideas (previous versions).
I think, it is worth to wait for it.

Sorry, but one more version 4.8.x must be published.
To go onwards me and you need a faster search.

For this Sting is not ready to be tested for ELO changes now. :?
