GNOME Chess for Linux distros

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello together,

the file engine.conf contains a list of programs which will be detected by GNOME Chess https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Chess

Amy
BBChess
Boo's Chess Engine
Crafty
Diablo
Faile
Fairy-Max
Fruit
Gambit Fruit
Glaurung
GNU Chess
HoiChess
Octochess
Phalanx
Shredder
Sjeng
Stockfish
Toga II

Except of the commercial Shredder software, are the others just GNOME Chess built-in engines or must be installed each of these programs manually? Exists still a newer pre-compiled version for Linux Ubuntu 64-bit?

To view the folder data\engines.conf an editor like Notepad++
http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.5.5.html is required.

Robert Ancell told me that glChess ttp://sourceforge.net/projects/glchess/
has no relationship to GNOME Chess in any way.

That is a little bit confusing because on the GNOME Chess page is written:

GNOME Chess used to be known as glChess and there are still stand alone versions of glChess in the wild; some information about the old versions is here for historical reasons.

Best wishes,
Norbert
