Rebel versions (UCI and DOS)

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello Ed,

it seems that Mephisto MM4 http://www.top-5000.nl/mephisto.htm
does not execute any moves under Arena-GUI, all other Mephisto´s run
normally with the interfcae.

Old DOS Rebels http://www.top-5000.nl/rebel.htm work well with
D-Fend Reloaded 1.3.5 http://sourceforge.net/projects/dfendreloaded/ -except Rebel Decade 1.0. (no graphical interface
can be created under Windows XP SP3-32 bit).

Rebel XP for DOS requires inserting a CD-ROM of
Rebel Century 4 / Rebel 11 or Gandalf 5, otherwise the application will be closed. Can you give us subsequently a Rebel XP for DOS patch which removes that obstacle?

Who of you made similar experiences with this Rebel "legacy" software?

Best wishes,
Norbert

Hello Norbert !

Here is the solution for Rebel XP (DOS) under uncle XP:

***$$$&&&***
Create a file REGISTER.BIN ( just rename an empty .txt file) in the folder where you've unzipped this RebelXP, and REBEL.EXE will work properly.
***$$$&&&***

My Professor in Wien CC Academy was a genius ! I don't know if he's still alive !

Best to you !
SilvianR

PS: to our mods: if my response (solving 100% the problem) seems a bit unorthodox - please delete this my post ! If not, all is OK !
THANK YOU in both situations ! It's a free software , isn't it ?

Thank you , Silvian!

Your solution works well with XP.

Rebel XP foe DOS is on Ed´s websute http://www.top-5000.nl/rebel.htm

Available old REBEL's

Rebel Decade 1.0 The first free Rebel.
Rebel Decade 3.0 The third freeware Rebel with over 1 million downloads.

Mephisto Gideon Ed Schröder's first born on the PC, the year is 1993.

Rebel 6.0 REBEL 6 was breakthrough regarding strength and and also because of the introduction of voluminous database facilities.
Rebel 7.0 Somewhat better than Rebel 6.0
Rebel 9.0 Leading the SSDF list & sieger of the world's no.10 chess player Artur Yussupov.
Rebel 10 Victor of the match against the world's no.2 chess player Vishy Anand. The year is 1998.
Rebel Century 1.0 Successor of Rebel 10. The addition "Century" because of the pending Millennium.
Rebel Century 3.0 One of the last DOS Rebel's.
Rebel XP The DOS version of 2002.
Rebel 12 The very last DOS Rebel of 2004. Run SETUP to install.

D-Fend Reloaded by Alexander Herzog is open-source project

I know , Norbert. Glad to know that I was a little bit of help !
Again, I know a lot of useful tricks from my Wien Herr Professor - Dr. Honoris Causa in computer chess genetics. Sometimes I hate all the history. Maybe in the afterlife ( - he's an atheist , but who cares) we will be brothers in arms (arms = DOS chess programs ) ! Who knows ?

Cheers,

Microsoft Virtual PC http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=3702 is supported by Windows 7, but D-Fend-Reloaded
can be used for XP (and other OSes) too

On Ed´s website "running old DOS Rebels" a link to
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=3702 is missing

Another Microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=4580 contains Virtual PC 2007.

To Ed:

Will be Rebel 11 package http://shop.lokasoft.nl/product.php/18/5
Rebel Tiger http://shop.lokasoft.nl/product.php/16/5
and Rebel 12 Windows http://www.lokasoft.nl/rebel12.aspx
available for free too?

Rebel 12 CB edition runs stable after a complete new installation (setup.exe) from Lokasoft CD-ROM now on Arena-GUI!

For more informations about Rebel Tiger , cf.
http://computer-chess.org/doku.php?id=c ... e_gui_list

Best wishes,
Norbert

Like the URL's suggest you need to contact Lokasoft. Personally I have no problems with the REBEL parts of the products.
